"WE HAVE FAMILY TIES WITH WINE GROWING THAT GO BACK 5 GENERATIONS"
1878 – SILVER MEDAL UNIVERSAL EXPOSITION IN PARIS
1888 – GOLD MEDAL UNIVERSAL EXPOSITION IN BARCELONA
The Celler Mas Doix is a winery created by the Doix and Llagostera families in 1998; it is the reinitiation of a tradition that began in 1850. The gold medal obtained in the Universal Exhibition of Barcelona in 1888 and the silver medal won in the Universal Exhibition of Paris in 1878, remind us of the passion with which Juan Extrems Doix, Juan Doix's grandfather, used long ago to look after the vineyards and produce his wines. The phylloxera outbreak did not mean the end of the family's vineyards. They were replanted with Garnacha and Cariñena varieties, native to the Priorat region, thereby maintaining the growth of the vineyards while the production was sent to the co-operative in Poboleda until it was produced in our winery. Nowadays, we are labouring with love and passion for the fruit grown in our hundred-year-old vineyards so we can produce great wines.
PHILOSOPHY: PASSION FOR OUR VINEYARD
"TO TRANSMIT THE INHERENT VALUES OF THE VINEYARD AND THE TERROIR OF THE PRIORAT."
We want to produce a wine that transmits the inherent values of the vineyard and characteristic terroir of the Priorat, a wine that is the fruit of its surroundings, soil, slope, orientation, microclimate and native varieties. We want to produce a great wine for ageing, exclusive, with strong personality and very limited production to share it with connoisseurs who understand and share that same passion: a wine that is something to talk about.
WINE: Exclusive wines
Two exclusive wines for sharing
Doix 1999: Grapes: 55% Garnacha, 40% Cariñena, 5% Merlot
Soils: The Doix Estate is found at: 350 m . above sea level on steep, terraced slopes with the characteristic licorella slate soil.
Vines: The grapes come from old vines between 70 and 100 years old. They have an average production of 350 gr. per vine-stock.
Vintage: A rainy September slightly delayed the maturing of the grapes. The Garnacha variety was harvested on 10 and 11 October and the Cariñena one week later, which made possible a complete phenolic maturation. The harvesting is carried out with rigorous selection criteria of the grapes while on the vines and their later classification on the sorting table at the winery.
Vinification and Ageing: With the vinification controlled day and night, and macerations lasting 5 weeks, a progressive and excellent extraction was obtained as well as an intense concentration. The wines were aged for 12 months in new barrels of French oak.

VINEYARD:
Hundred-year-old vineyard
"AN IDEAL MICROCLIMATE FOR PRODUCING GREAT WINES."
The properties of the terraced vineyards, with licorella slate soil and vine-stocks between 70 and 100 years, guarantees us the availability of a reduced, but excellent, raw material (400 gr. by stock). The passion and the constancy, during the last 75 years, of the Doix family have made possible the conservation of the vines that today are our main quality assurance. At the present time, we have 17 ha . of our own vineyards: the Doix estate ( 5 ha .) has had a planting of Garnacha and Cariñena vines for the last 85 years; the estate of Les Crestes ( 5 ha .) has a planting of Garnacha and Merlot; the Mas de l'Osso ( 5 Ha .) is planted with Garnacha, Merlot and Syrah; the estate Els Ullastres ( 1 ha .) is planted with Garnacha and the La Venteta estate ( 1 ha .) is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon. Since 1999, we have another 5 ha . of grape growers in the area, using exclusively terraced, old vines of Garnacha and Cariñena. All the properties are located at an altitude of between 350 and 400 m .
WINERY:
Meticulous production in the winery
"A METICULOUS PROCESS OF VINIFICATION SO AS TO RESPECT TO THE UTMOST THE QUALITIES OF THE BEST GRAPES"
SELECTION OF GRAPES ON THE VINE - DIFFERENTIATED VINIFICATION - AGEING IN BARRELS OF NEW FRENCH OAK
We meticulously produce and make our wine, starting with a rigorous selection on the vine and later classification of the best grapes on the sorting table at the winery. There is minimum handling and no rinsings or filtrations so as to respect to the utmost the qualities of the wine. The aging takes place in barrels of new Allier French oak, 75% of which is renewed every year.
