Fresh, balance and expressivity
The year is to be remembered for the heatwave that lasted until the end of June, with temperatures of up to 43 °C that especially affected the Carignan. A hot summer, but with showers that cooled off the vines. Optimal conditions continued through the end of August resulting in grapes that were concentrated and well balanced. Great quality with slightly lower yields.
Early vintage. As a result of high temperatures, the plants started their vegetative growth between 2 and 3 weeks earlier than usual. This advance of the cycle, together with the intense spring rains and the high temperatures, generated the “perfect storm” for the development of Mildew fungus. A dry summer sped up the ripening process, so the harvest started a week earlier than usual. Healthy grapes were high quality with lower yields.
A heavy snowfall in January left good water reserves. The spring was dry and cool, with good vegetative growth. The summer followed the trend of low temperatures with more rain than normal. Overall, a cooler and wetter summer. Grapes ripened slowly and the harvest began a week later than usual. A vintage with abundant grapes, good acidity, contained alcohol content and perfect ripening. Long life 2021!
