Single vineyard wine. Pure Grenache.
Delicate. Pure. Fresh.

Vineyard

Coma de Cases vineyard, bush vines planted in 1945 (more than 75 year-old-vines). Very close to Poboleda.
Orientation: West, oriented towards the Siurana river valley
Altitude: 360 – 420 m.

Varieties

100% Grenache.

Soil and climate

Steep “llicorella” slate hillsides.
Mediterranean days and continental nights. High diurnal range.

Elaboration and aging

Harvested by hand. First selection before gently destemming of 100% grapes. Second selection berry by berry on the sorting table. All the grapes ferment in an open 400-liter French oak barrel. After three weeks of maceration, we press and only keep the free-run juice. Once the malolactic fermentation is complete, we transfer the wine to a third-year barrel. The wine remains in the barrel for 10 months.

Tasting note

Light red berry fruits with a wild forest quality to them, very light forest floor note developing, white pepper, dried citric peel, and a good deal of red licorice spice. Quite lifted and fresh on the palate, clean, linear acidity to it giving great length to the wine overall.

Vintage 2020

An early vintage. As a result of high temperatures, the plants started their vegetative growth between 2 and 3 weeks earlier than usual. This advance of the cycle, together with the intense spring rains and the high temperatures, generated the “perfect storm” for the development of mildew fungus. A dry summer sped up the ripening process, so the harvest started a week earlier than usual. High quality healthy grapes but lower yields.
